Yes this is me...the hard ass.
to laugh, play, and escape into a great comic book. comic book.
Scratching your head at what this has to do with yoga yet? Let alone May/June?
Here it is...wait for it... wait for it..
Summer is beginning; the time when the air heats up, we wear less clothing, become more body conscious, and drives us to be rigorous about ourselves in every way.
So many times I walk into classes where everyone is so focused that they forget that it's just yoga. So if you can, don't just do yoga, live it, love it, and find a good laugh in it.
Summer is a fun time where we can let go and shrug off being cold and uptight from the winter. So let your muscles loosen up a bit and laugh a little. There is plenty of time to be a spandex-wearin'-badass-that-saves- lives later.
Humor truly heals the soul.

Sometimes we have to look to the past, as
scary as it may seem in order to see our
future.

Ah, yes, this is about yoga how? Well,
simply put, sometimes we can revisit those
early teachings, but we cannot live in them
forever. They are a part of us, and our
history. Our early teachings are the
artifacts we need to solve our human
puzzles, and much like Jurrasic Park and
my photos, they are in the past for a reason.
So let's move forward together and brave
new paths, always remembering to take
time to breathe, reflect, and appreciate
everything that has gotten us to where we
are today.
Monthly Focus:
"Deep Stretch/Restorative":
Big scary green dinosaur standing behind you? Breathing down your neck? Or maybe
you're just feeling a little older, heavier, and behind the times.
Whatever the reason, this specialized yoga utilizes props and supports throughout the
majority of the sequencing. Slow moving with a great deal of focus placed on alignment,
lengthening the muscles, internal systems (i.e digestive system, etc.), and deep relaxation,
you are sure to feel refreshed and restored after a long week of work. If you have never
taken a yoga class, this would be a perfect starting point as it begins with basic floor
postures to open up your body. And if you are an extreme yogi... this class is also perfect for
you as it helps to soothe tired/ sore muscles and to open up tense areas relieving internal
blockages.
So lie on the floor, let out a roar, and discover a new you.
November: Transformation
Many changes. Things have gotten a little
"earthier" as I, too, transition into fall.
Often in life, we are given a huge hurdled to
leap, and we can either embrace it and
commit, or we can drag our heals and
fumble forward.
I have accepted the up-coming challenge of
transformation, and am committed to sticking
my landing. We need change to move
forward, but most importantly we need to
believe in the change we are partaking.
It wasn't so very long ago that I found myself
hunting and searching for greater answers to
life; my life, to be exact, when I found yoga.
And although I will never be one to say that
Yoga changed my life, I can testify that my life
changed through Yoga. The reason this
worked for me is because I believed in
myself, the process, and the experience.
Remember the journey isn't about what's
ahead or what's to come, but rather what's
already inside of you waiting to guide the way.
Here's to more adventures, friendship, and
guiding each other.

"Kundalini Yoga":
Pluto was once the planet that
represented transformation,
secrecy, and intimacy, but alas
is no longer. While it still holds
all these properties, Pluto itself
has transformed into a new
category of which we call
"dwarf" planet. And while the
mystery will always remain as
to why our perception of this
often times cold and volatile
planet needed to be
recategorized, one thing is
certain, Pluto is still Pluto.
We can change what we are
called, but we cannot change
the truth of who we are. This I
know firsthand. And while I am
the largest advocate of
changing things that do not
work for you, in order to do so,
you have to do the work.
Change takes time. Change
takes preparation. Most
importantly, change takes
commitment.
For the next couple of months,
I will be going back to my roots
in Yoga. I will be going back to
Kundalini. If you do not know
about this type of Yoga, let me
first start off by telling you that
it is powerful. Through
Kundalini, we take and
channel inner energy and
transform our world and life
around us. (If we were cars,
this would be the oil change
and tune-up of operating the
vehicle.) Kundalini allows us to
dream, take hold of who we
are, and allow our avatars to
truly exist in this world.
Anyone up for seeing the
world through a new set of
eyes?
